Abstract


This note is by a fourth year doctoral student in History who spent six weeks in Damascus and Aleppo in the summer of 2008. She describes the use of her travel funding, the benefits of conducting exploratory research prior to extended dissertation research abroad, and some logistics for travel and residency in Syria.
